THE LEARNING CURVE PROJECT

This is a my personal, yet public, journal of my attempt to learn and put into practise the art of making house music to be played in a club. Like many hobbyists out there, I would like the chance to take my music from the bedroom to the main room.

I will not be cutting any corners as I venture on this journey as I go from point A to B and finally to Z in the next year.

Along the way I will be investigating the different genres of house music. Anyone that has an interest in this style of music knows that there are more styles that I can shake a stick at, but I will do my best. I’m also hoping my peers who have made a success in this industry will provide feedback, give professional advice, and answer any questions I may have. It doesn’t matter what style of music or how big they’ve made it, we all have to start somewhere and hopefully, they can share their experiences with me.

I invite you to get involved as well by sharing your story, no matter what it is you do and maybe we can all learn from each others gains and losses.

Final note: I have recently learned that there is a rock band called "The Learning Curve" after setting up this page. I have nothing to do with them and apologise for any confusion.

Yes that’s right I’m gonna pay you to be the face of COOKING UP BEATS. All you have to do is be prepared to help promote my label and work and I will pay you with cash. What will you need? A camera and not be shy. Inbox me if you wanna earn some money today.

In the past I have told my views about using sexual images to sell/promote music. I stick to the theory that 9.9999 times out of 10 it is bound to be shit. Well while I may have those views I do not expect others to share that same train of thought.

Being a male like most who sooner or later the head inside the pants will take over the thinking part of the brain and will be attracted to something, like a booty bounce video. Let me just quickly say I really find booty bounce videos great in the first 20 seconds or so then get real boring soon afterwards. Even so I still manage to be drawn to them like a moth to a flame on most days.

After coming across 1 the other day I suddenly had that I could use 1 of these videos to my advantage. Does anyone remember the Kony 2012 promo with some woman in a bikini? Well I only quickly had a look but it I know that some teenage boy would have been glued to that screen. So why don’t I do the same, no me in a bikini, hire a model to do me a booty bounce video?

By now I’m sure you are aware that I am very impulsive, I get an idea and act on it. So if your a female and your reading this and you think it’s a good idea why not drop me a line.

Earlier today I submitted my track PEANUT to be reviewed by Brian Sidler-former music writer for Chicago Music Magazine and now writes for The Critical Post [Chicago]. I just read one of his reviews and he don’t pull any punches. I hope he is in a good moodwhen he does the review and don’t tear me a new one.

A few years ago I wanted to do something in my local area. It aint an original idea but something I’m blatantly stealing from someone else. When I was living in London I used to work at a Community radio station. This was not only a radio station, it was also a workshop for adults and kids [not at the same time] where they could learn how to edit audio and record their own radio shows if successful in the training.

Sorry for those of you who have been following my journey and started wondering if I would be posting anymore from what I have been up tp. Well today I have a day off from work and I’m gonna take a little minute to just break it all down into small digestable chunks.

This is my new logo what I got done for me by the great people at http://thumbprintproductions.co.uk/ They did this for me for an amazing price of £25. Premiere league looks at ghetto prices. In case your a bit confused I will fill you in with all the details soon.

As time goes on I been making more observations about this music industry what to be honest is becoming more and more frustrating by the day. It really is looking like it’s who you know not what you know. You do need money to get somewhere but also you do need to network your butt off.

The other day i posted for you my followers to vote for me, I also stated that the first one to repost my post will have my next track named after them. Well it seems that only one person was taking notice of this fact so the next track will be called…

someonehelpmepleaseineedashitandican’tgetthekeyinthedoor

No. I’m only joking…

The name of the next track will be…

Fistful of words

Well done to you.

If yo haven’t noticed since discovering HitMe1 I seem to be singing their praises. Something that has seemed to come back and kiss me on the lips. Last week I was featured in the monthly news letter, how great is that. It went out to over 1000 members of the site, so if they never knew me before they know about me now.

Despite what the title reads this is not exactly following the tradition of ‘putting my money where my mouth is’. The simple reason for this is because this post is more of an observation and theory post rather than an action post.

Thank you to all that has helped me get there. Number 1 baby.

I have come across many articles and such about the praises of Sylenth 1. To those that don’t know what it is, it’s a 3rd party soft synth that many people in the EDM scene are using. I’m still a firm believer that if you shell out the cash for a DAW you should at least attempt to get your head around the ‘in-the-box’ tools before looking at 3rd party products, even if all the top cats in the scene are using them. Many of the top people will use the same ‘in-the-box’ products and make tracks you will be nodding your head to.

I’ve had this soft synth sitting around my home studio know for quite some time now and never bothered to check it out until recently and my first impression was it looked complecated. If you look on the net you will find that there are lots of other 3rd party presets you can buy for the Sylenth 1, something I find the market is really missing out on when it comes to ‘in-the-box’ synths (shame on you manufacturers)..

Admittedly I can kind of see why people make such a big fuss over it. It allows you the end user to do so much more than lets say my favourite synth ES2. It also has all the effects built into it, unlike say the ES2 which has got me used to adding all the effects to the channel strip before the bus strip. This allows me to save on CPU power drainage.

I did use it to make the latest remix ‘Kwality Kontrol-Don’t stop’ (still adding some final touches) and I’m really happy with the result. It will take me a while to truly get my head around it but for now I made use it in more of my up coming projects more often.

Sylenth 1 is available to purchase from Lennar Digital for an amazing price of 139 euros.

Yes that’s right, me and my noise that makes your ears bleed is number 1 in all the genre charts on HitMe1 website as of yesterday. I just found out and I’m super duper happy, think I’m gonna do the running man blend into the shuffle and have a hot chocolate, The last one is the beverage.
