THE LEARNING CURVE PROJECT

This is a my personal, yet public, journal of my attempt to learn and put into practise the art of making house music to be played in a club. Like many hobbyists out there, I would like the chance to take my music from the bedroom to the main room.

I will not be cutting any corners as I venture on this journey as I go from point A to B and finally to Z in the next year.

Along the way I will be investigating the different genres of house music. Anyone that has an interest in this style of music knows that there are more styles that I can shake a stick at, but I will do my best. I’m also hoping my peers who have made a success in this industry will provide feedback, give professional advice, and answer any questions I may have. It doesn’t matter what style of music or how big they’ve made it, we all have to start somewhere and hopefully, they can share their experiences with me.

I invite you to get involved as well by sharing your story, no matter what it is you do and maybe we can all learn from each others gains and losses.

Final note: I have recently learned that there is a rock band called "The Learning Curve" after setting up this page. I have nothing to do with them and apologise for any confusion.

At the London event, one of my contacts at the networking sessions mentioned that Music Jobs UK is the place to look for Singers and Rappers as well as other producers to work with. Seen as making requests on this site does not bear any fruit I didn’t see the harm in giving it a try.

While I was giving it the once over before registering I found many professionals on there. Ranging from Artists [singers, rappers, voice over] to management and everything in between. Mentioning managers, I have been told many times that it is not a good idea to go looking for a manager if they are advertising, this makes me think how the hell are you supposed to get one then, or if you want to be a manager and have no clients how are you supposed to get any? That is something that can be brought up another time, but for now lets just concentrate on the site.

I did a search and came across some singers that have been in the recording industry for many years. You are able to hear their previous work on the site and some of them have direct links to their own websites and what nots. I was pretty impressed by the way the website is set up. Everyone has to create a CV so you can have a detailed look at their previous work history and also get direct telephone numbers and emails to call them.

I decided to join the site as I really want to meet people that are working or looking for work and not the time wasters. I must admit I started off finding it a bit difficult to navigate as I was not used to it. But after a few hours and a few visits later I think I got the hang of it. I created a CV and set up a Business account. That way I can both look for jobs and recruit at the same time. I guess it can’t be a bad idea to advertise for a manager while I’m on there. Like most sites they offer a free service and a subscribed service. I opted for the subscribed service as I hope it will be much better in the long run for me.

There is lots on there for me to discover and much more I could write but I think if your interested you wouldn’t even got this far. Why not check it out for yourself, you may find that job you’ve always wanted or a new band member.

After making a tumblr app to export this blog to my Wordpress website I thought it would automatically update itself. Well it don’t, am I pissed? Why yes I am. Is it easy to find a app that does that for me? No it ain’t. There is a tumblr app but for some frigging reason it will not work. As I said before I am more than happy to knock someone out with a wedge of cash to sort out my website.

So I made the app to link this yo my website. It managed to upload everything but the pictures do not show. I can find them in my saved area and I need to work out how to get it to load the images. Beforehand forget it somehow knew to put the blog entries in the correct page. I guess I have to look on the bright side. If people really want to know the whole story they will have to visit this site. Also for some reason I have no idea how to update the entries from here on there. Other than than I’m kind of please with what I have done so far.

I have managed to import/export all the contender from here to my website. The bad news is it has not imported any images. I now have to look for a plug-in to do that if it exists, downsize some audio files and upload a bunch of pictures on there. I don’t know how I did it but I was able to add the soundcloud and it plays the music direct. I want to add exclusive content to the site so I gots to get busy.

Well right now I just learned how to make my own app for my webite. It will take all the posts from this tumblr (I think) and add them to my website. Maybe I won’t need to maintain to different blogs.

WordPress Tutorial for Beginners - Make a Website! (by 2createawebsite)

Many months ago I mentioned that my knight on shining amour sorted me out with a domain and website. He did day that I need to maintain it myself. That’s fairy nuff I got something for free so it’s up to me to maintain it. I have to admit that ever since last year when I logged in it gave me a headache Andover never signed in again until today. Right now just thinking about tackling this mammoth task is giving me a headache again. I swear if someone was to inbox me and say they can do it for me I would gladly pay them. I have just tried to link this blog to the website but lo and behold I don’t have a clue how to link the two and I already added a widget do do that. I got a beginners guide video playing while I type this and I’d course I’m not paying attention cause that would be way too easy. Sorry but I have to contact my go to girl and see if she knows what to do and hand over my cash. Too goo sweet girl…

So after my post for a promo girl I have been advised that I should not do that unless she is directly involved in the business. I don’t totally understand what that means but I still need to grab attention. So I want to make a promo vid for the track.

If you can dance or have a great imagination please get in contact with me ASAP.

Some people will say yes, mainly A&R’s while other will say that job is dead and over due to people like myself being able to do it on our own.

However to get noticed you need to be able to stand out so where you ever you can get the help it has to be taken. So what do you do if you have no money to pay someone to do it for you? well luckily enough I just came across a website that will be able to do it for you. They will contect you to professionals in the music industry and if you look hard enough there are some on the site that will do it for you for free*.

The site is called music xray. Look them up

*When you upload music you get $4.00 what they take back if you submit for a service. You can also earn money buy taking part in activities.

Sorry for those of you who have been following my journey and started wondering if I would be posting anymore from what I have been up tp. Well today I have a day off from work and I’m gonna take a little minute to just break it all down into small digestable chunks.

As time goes on I been making more observations about this music industry what to be honest is becoming more and more frustrating by the day. It really is looking like it’s who you know not what you know. You do need money to get somewhere but also you do need to network your butt off.

I have come across many articles and such about the praises of Sylenth 1. To those that don’t know what it is, it’s a 3rd party soft synth that many people in the EDM scene are using. I’m still a firm believer that if you shell out the cash for a DAW you should at least attempt to get your head around the ‘in-the-box’ tools before looking at 3rd party products, even if all the top cats in the scene are using them. Many of the top people will use the same ‘in-the-box’ products and make tracks you will be nodding your head to.

I’ve had this soft synth sitting around my home studio know for quite some time now and never bothered to check it out until recently and my first impression was it looked complecated. If you look on the net you will find that there are lots of other 3rd party presets you can buy for the Sylenth 1, something I find the market is really missing out on when it comes to ‘in-the-box’ synths (shame on you manufacturers)..

Admittedly I can kind of see why people make such a big fuss over it. It allows you the end user to do so much more than lets say my favourite synth ES2. It also has all the effects built into it, unlike say the ES2 which has got me used to adding all the effects to the channel strip before the bus strip. This allows me to save on CPU power drainage.

I did use it to make the latest remix ‘Kwality Kontrol-Don’t stop’ (still adding some final touches) and I’m really happy with the result. It will take me a while to truly get my head around it but for now I made use it in more of my up coming projects more often.

Sylenth 1 is available to purchase from Lennar Digital for an amazing price of 139 euros.

As promised this is a follow up to the last review on HitMe1. Been using the site over the last couple of weeks and I can reveal it has been a good experience. I have been able to learn a few more things about the site.
